Iran moves past Azerbaijan 3-2 in 2018 Persian Beach Soccer Cup

The Iran men’s national beach soccer team has defeated Azerbaijan in its opening match at the second edition of the Persian Beach Soccer Cup in the southern Iranian port city of Bushehr.

The Iranian squad downed the Azerbaijani side 3-2 in a fixture played at Pars Jonoubi Jam Stadium on Saturday evening.

Defender Mostafa Kiani was on target twice, while forward Mohammad Ahmadzadeh got his name on the score sheet once.

Earlier in the day, the strong Spanish men's national beach soccer team had taken on Ukraine in the curtain raiser, and thrashed it 6-2.

The Iran men’s national beach soccer team is scheduled to play against Ukraine and Spain on Sunday and Monday.

The second edition of the Persian Beach Soccer Cup kicked off on January 27, and will run through January 29, 2018.

Azerbaijan, Spain, Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Iran are vying for top honors during the competition.

The Iran men’s national beach soccer team put a thrilling end to its campaign at the first edition of Persian Beach Soccer Cup in Bushehr, clinching the international tournament’s title with an unblemished record.

The Iranian squad defeated the national Italian beach soccer team – nicknamed Gli Azzurri (The Blues) – 4-3 in the final showdown at Bushehr Tourism Village on February 16, 2017.
