Team Melli Saheli finishes 3rd at Huawei Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2017

The Iran men’s national beach soccer team

The Iran men’s national beach soccer team has ranked third at the end of the Huawei Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2017 in the United Arab Emirates.

Team Melli Saheli, which lost to Russia 3-4 in group stage on November 2, played a better performance in the third place play-off match at Business Bay in Dubai on Saturday, beating Russia 4-2.

Forward Boris Nikonorov opened the scoring for Russia in the 17th minute, before Iranian goalkeeper Hamid Behzadpour scored the equalizer and forced the match to a 1-1 draw three minutes later.

Iranian skipper Mohammad Ahmadzadeh doubled Iran’s advantage in the 22nd minute.

Iran’s Mohammad Moradi made it 3-1 in the 28th minute, before Russian defender Kirill Romanov netted the second goal for his team just near the half hour mark.

Iran’s fourth goal of the match came in the 36th minute, when defender Mostafa Kiani buried the ball at the back of the net.

The 2017 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Beach Soccer World Cup champion, Brazil, defeated the Portugal national beach soccer team, nicknamed Selecção das Quinas, 2-0 in the final showpiece and lifted the trophy.

The Huawei Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2017 started on October 31, and finished on November 4.
