Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 18:00 GMT, October 13, 2017 to 08:00 GMT, October 14, 2017.

Rouhani condemns Trump

The Iranian president has dismissed as baseless and full of hatred the comments by his US counterpart on Iran and the nuclear deal. Rouhani warns that Tehran will only comply with the agreement as long as it serves its national interests. Hassan Rouhani also downplays Donald trump’s comment about amending the nuclear accord. Rouhani says the JCPOA is a United Nations Security Council resolution and as such cannot be unilaterally changed by the US government. The president has added that all international players now back the continued implementation of the treaty as it is. He also rejects Trump’s hostile talk against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

Iran statement

In the meantime, Iran has issued a statement against Trump’s strategy on the Islamic Republic. The country’s permanent mission has delivered the document to the United Nations, calling on the world body’s chief to circulate the document to the Security Council. In the statement, Tehran has denounced Washington’s long-term animosity, interventionism, and destabilizing approach against the Iranian nation since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979. US support for terrorist plots and operations as well as coup attempts are other points of protest in the statement. The document then refers to the role of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps in fighting against global terrorism, saying the military body has had an impeccable record of containing terror groups. Tehran’s statement then condemns US exploitation of conflicts for its arms sales.

Trump claim dismissed

The European Union foreign policy chief says the 2015 Iran nuclear deal does not belong to any single country to be able to terminate it. Federica Mogherini said the JCPOA was not a domestic issue to be sent to the US Congress for a final decision but a United Nations Security Council resolution. Mogherini added that the EU and the rest of the international community were committed to preserving the agreement to the benefit of all world nations. Russia has slammed Donald Trump’s anti-Iran strategy, saying such threats and aggressive rhetoric are doomed to fail. Meanwhile, leaders of Britain, France and Germany issued a joint statement in support of the nuclear deal, reaffirming their commitment to the accord. The International Atomic Energy Agency also says Iran has lived up to all its obligations under the accord.

US ‘isolation’

US House Democrat Leader Nancy Pelosi has labeled as a grave mistake President Donald Trump’s refusal to certify the Iran nuclear deal. She says the measure will threaten the US security and will isolate it.

IAEA reconfirmation

The IAEA head reconfirms that Iran is fully honoring its commitments under the JCPOA, shortly after the US president decertifies the deal.

Battle for Raqqah

An alliance of US-backed Kurdish and Arab forces says it is waging the final battle against Daesh terrorists in the northeastern Syrian city of Raqqah. A spokesman from the Syrian democratic forces says the city will be liberated within hours or in a couple of days despite terrorists’ stiff resistance. Meanwhile, a monitoring group says all Syrians fighting along with the Daesh terror group have left Raqqah. According to the Syrian observatory for human rights, preparations are underway to bus out the remaining foreign terrorists from the flashpoint city. The provincial capital of Raqqah has been under the control of Takfiri terrorists since 2014.

California wildfires

The death toll from raging wildfires in the US state of California has reached 36. Authorities say the number of fatalities is likely to rise as teams with sniffer dogs are combing charred ruins for human remains. More than 200 people remain missing. The wind-driven blazes, which erupted last weekend, have destroyed some 6,000 homes and businesses, forcing the evacuation of at least 25,000 people. A state of emergency has already been declared in the state. Meanwhile, fire officials have reported further headway in containing the flames. Wildfires are said to be the most lethal in state history.
