The Iran men's national under-19 volleyball team has defeated the Czech Republic in straight sets in its last fixture at the preliminary round of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship in Bahrain.

On Tuesday, the Iranian side raced to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-19) win against the Czech team to claim the top spot in Pool D following a match at Isa City Sports Hall.

Iran’s Pouriya Yali charted a total of 17 points scored off purely on attacks, while Amir Hossein Toukteh contributed another 11 points.

“I would say I am about 80 percent satisfied with the performance of the team so far. I think it has something to do with the age, that they can be prone to too many mistakes. We do not have any solution for this except time itself. We need experience,” Iran’s coach Reza Vakili Farjad said after the match.

Iranian volleyball player Porya Yali said, “This is the second time I have played in the World Championship. Two years ago, I was mostly staying on the bench, and now I can play on the court. I have great motivation to perform well each time. I am hungry for every win.”

“Iran played a good match. They are a very strong team. They did not give us any room as they were much better in attack. It was their key to their victory,” Czech coach Jiri Zach commented.

Czech captain Ondrej Piskacek said, “We have to improve on our counter-attack. We were not able to play well today.”

The Iran men's national under-19 volleyball team is scheduled to take on Turkey in its next match on Thursday.

The 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship started in Bahrain on August 18, and will wrap up on August 27.
