Man City's Yaya Toure apologizes to fans for drunk driving

Manchester City's Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure calls for the ball during the English Premier League football match between Crystal Palace and Manchester City at Selhurst Park in south London on November 19, 2016.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has apologized to fans after being charged for drunk driving. But he says he had never intentionally consumed alcohol.

The incident happened in London last month when Yaya was driving above the permitted limit and was stopped and tested by police.

Toure pleaded guilty to the charge at a court hearing. He was then fined 54,000 pounds and banned from driving for 18 months.

But in a Facebook statement released on his website, the Ivory Coast international said that he would never knowingly drink because of his religious beliefs. It is yet unclear how the alcohol got into his system.
