Trump says 2016 election 'rigged' by 'corrupt' media
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has accused the "corrupt" US media of manipulating the 2016 election in favor of his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
"Hillary is running for president in what looks like a rigged election," Trump told supporters in New Hampshire on Saturday.
"The election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president," the real estate magnate said.
Trump is furious at the US media, which has launched an offensive against him in recent weeks over his sexual abuse scandal.
A 2005 video was released last Friday, in which Trump can be heard making lewd comments about women and bragging about groping them.
A number of women have since come forward claiming that the business mogul has sexually assaulted them.
Trump has called the allegations “slander and libel” and part of a “concerted, coordinated and vicious attack” by Clinton and the news media to undercut his campaign.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, who earlier withdrew his support from Trump, criticized his comments that question the validity of the US electoral process.
“Our democracy relies on confidence in election results, and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity,” Ryan's spokesperson AshLee Strong said on Saturday.
In addition, Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook fired back at Trump’s allegations, saying that “campaigns should be hard-fought and elections hard-won.”
“What is fundamental about the American electoral system is that it is free, fair and open to the people,” he added.
Trump also suggested that Clinton might have used performance-enhancing drugs during their last debate, calling for a drug test ahead of their final televised debate on Wednesday in Las Vegas.
"I don't know what is going on with her. At the beginning of her last debate, she was all pumped up. At the end, it was like, take me down, she could barely reach her car."
"Athletes, they make them take a drug test. I think we should take a drug test prior to the debate. Why don't we do that?" Trump said.
