Arkhi sets new Iran javelin throw record with 76.20 meters

Iranian pitcher Ayoub Arkhi has featured an outstanding display of athletic skills at the first stage of the 2016 edition of Iran’s Athletics Premier League, and created a new national record in the men's javelin throw event.

Arkhi hurled the javelin to a distance of 76.20 meters at Aftab-e Enghelab Sports Complex in the capital, Tehran, on Tuesday to beat the previous record of the track and field event by eight centimeters.

Omid Taji was holding the previous men’s national record of 76.12 meters.

Arkhi also bettered his previous personal best of 75.76 meters set at the second stage of the 19th edition of Iran’s Athletics Premier League in September 2015.

The first stage of the 2016 edition of Iran’s Athletics Premier League started in Tehran on August 1, and wrapped up the following day.

Dozens of athletes were in action in 100 meter dash, 200 meters, 400 meter dash, 800-meter run, 1,500-meter run, 3000-meter steeplechase, 5000-meter steeplechase, 10,000-meter run, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meters hurdles, 4 × 100 meters relay or sprint relay, 4 × 400 meters relay or long relay.

The Iranian sportspeople also vied for the top honor in 10-kilometer race walk, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, javelin throw and decathlon competitions.
