Iranian ski mountaineers have displayed awe-inspiring athletic skills at the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) European Series Kamchatka Race 2016 in Russia, and received three more medals, including two golds, in the competitions.

On Sunday, Navid Meghdid vied for the top honor in the junior individual race contests at the foot of Avachinsky volcano, located nearly 10,000 kilometers (6,213 miles) east of the capital, Moscow, and outshone opponents to claim the top position.

Hossein Seid in the cadet individual race section impressed the crowd to pick up another gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Later in the day, the Iranian outfit scooped up a silver medal in the team race competitions.

The ISMF European Series Kamchatka Race 2016 opened in Russia’s far eastern peninsula of Kamchatka on April 22, and wrapped up on April 24.

Ski mountaineering is a skiing discipline that involves climbing mountains either on skis or carrying them, depending on the steepness of the ascent, and then descending on skis. It is an activity that variously combines ski touring, Telemark, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering.

The three prestigious races in the field are the Italian Mezzalama Trophy, the Swiss Patrouille des Glaciers, and the French Pierra Menta.
