Iran’s Savehei earns silver in Asian Championships of Ski Mountaineering

Iranian skier Abolfazl Savehei has exceeded expectations at the 2016 Asian Championships of Ski Mountaineering in South Korea, and managed to collect a silver medal at the continental event.

On Sunday, Savehei exhibited a brilliant performance in the men’s individual contests at High1 Ski Resort in South Korea’s northeastern province of Gangwon, and clocked 119 minutes over a course of 18 kilometers to stand in the silver medal position.

A representative from Japan registered a winning time of 116 minutes to scoop the top honor and receive the gold medal. Another Japanese skier took the bronze with 120 minutes.

The achievement came a day after Savehei recorded 17.26 minutes in the men’s vertical competitions and picked up the bronze medal.

A Japanese skier snatched the gold medal with 16.17 minutes. The silver went to a participant from China, who clocked 17.02 minutes.

The 2016 Asian Championships of Ski Mountaineering started in High1 Ski Resort, South Korea, on March 12 and finished the following day.

The tournament was staged in junior and senior individual and vertical disciplines.

Abolfazl Savehei and Hossein Salehi represented Iran in senior competitions, whilst Navid Moghdid was the Islamic Republic’s representative in junior contests.
