Blair slammed for following US footsteps into Iraq war

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says those behind the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq and Turkey have been trained by the U-S, Israel and the U-K. Ayatollah Khamenei was addressing thousands of worshippers in Tehran after the Eid al-Fitr congregational prayer, which he led.
  • Former British prime minister Tony Blair is facing criticism for following the United States’ footsteps into the Iraq war. The criticism comes as a report into Britain’s involvement in the war is due to be published on Wednesday. Families of the Britons killed in Iraq want Blair to stand trial.
  • A new report suggests that hate crimes in the U-K have increased more than 50 percent since the Brexit vote. Since then, on average, 67 incidents of hate crimes have been reported in London every day. The vast majority of the cases involve offensive language.
  • The Italian coastguard says it has rescued over 45-hundred refugees trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Some 150 women and children were among those saved. Europe has been grappling with its biggest influx of asylum-seekers since World War Two, as people flee conflict-stricken zones in Africa and the Middle East.
  • Saudi Arabia has vowed to combat extremism a day after deadly attacks rocked the kingdom. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said Riyadh will strike with QUOTE an iron fist those who prey on the youth vulnerable to religious extremism.
  • A bomb attack has shaken the northeastern Syrian city of Hasakah. At least 10 people, including a women and a child, have lost their lives. Nearly 30 others were wounded in the explosion. Daesh terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
  • The death toll from a Daesh terrorist bomb attack in the Iraqi capital Baghdad has risen to two-hundred and fifty. Some Two-hundred others were also wounded. Meanwhile, thousands of Iraqis have held a candlelight vigil in the district of Karradah where the blast took place.
