Uzbekistani football goalkeeper Alexander Lobanov has signed with the professional Iranian Persepolis Football Club, which plays in the Persian Gulf Pro League, also known as Iran Pro League (IPL).

The 30-year-old of Russian origin arrived in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Tuesday morning, and underwent medical examinations later in the day.

He penned a contract with the Tehran-based club during a ceremony at Tehran Football Association, and established himself in the Persepolis line-up for the remainder of this season and the next.

Lobanov replaced Sosha Makani, who has had lackluster performances in Persepolis during the first half of the current season.

Lobanov started his playing career with Uzbekistani football club PFK Sogdiana Jizzakh in 2005.

He moved to Kazakh football club FC Kaysar two years later, before signing a three-year contract with Uzbek professional football club Pakhtakor Tashkent FK.

Persepolis Football Club stands in the 5th spot in the IPL table, having amassed 29 points.

Esteghlal Tehran Football Club is the top-ranked soccer team in the rankings, with 34 points.

Esteghlal Meli-Sanati Khuzestan Football Club, commonly known as Esteghlal Khuzestan, has bagged 33 points to claim the second position, while third-place Zob Ahan Football Club has earned 30 points. Saipa Tehran Football Club has landed in the fourth spot with 30 points.
