3 teams into Greco-Roman Wrestling Clubs Cup semifinals

Three teams have made their way into the semifinal round of the second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup in the Islamic Republic of Iran following praiseworthy performances in group stage encounters.

On Thursday, Iranian wrestling team of Padideh Dokouheh Andimeshk made a decent start at Khalij-e Fars Hall of Shahid Jahan Ara Sports Complex in Iran’s southwestern port city of Khorramshahr, situated more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) southwest of the capital, Tehran, and conquered Petroshimi Arvand of Iran 7-1 in its first Group A contest.

Dokouheh Andimeshk then triumphed over Manas wrestling club of Kyrgyzstan 6-2 in the next bout, and advanced to the semifinals.

In Group B, Iran’s Bimeh Razi squad recorded an 8-0 win against Alparslan of Turkmenistan in its first encounter before brushing aside Iranian outfit Sina San’at Izeh in the second showdown and securing a place in the semifinal round.

Additionally, Hungarian Budapest TF Greco-Roman wrestling team emerged victorious 6-2 in its first Group D contest against NS Academic of Bulgaria. The Hungarians then prevailed over representatives from a Moroccan team and proceeded to the semifinals.

The second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup is underway in Khorramshahr, Iran.

The second edition of the Greco-Roman World Wrestling Clubs Cup opened in Khorramshahr, Iran, on December 17, and will conclude on Friday.

On November 27, Bimeh Razi breezed past American Titan Mercury 7-1 at the World Wrestling Clubs Cup final in Iran, and took top billing with $50,000.

Titan Mercury wrestling club claimed the second place with $30,000 in prize money.

Iran’s Kefayati Mashhad also overcame Tashir club of Armenia 7-1 in the third-place bouts and settled for the bronze podium as well as $20,000.

The two-day tournament brought a total of 15 teams together at Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran.
