Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers crown Veterans World Championships

The 2015 Veteran World Wrestling Championships started in Athens, Greece, on October 13, 2015, and finished on October 18.

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers have exhibited praiseworthy skills and strength at the 2015 Veteran World Championships in Greece, and have been crowned as the champion of the international sporting event.

On Sunday, the Iranian team finished in the first place at the end of the competitions in the Melina Mercouri indoor public stadium of the Greek capital, Athens, wining seven gold, eight silver and fourteen bronze medals, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

Russian and Greek veteran Greco-Roman wrestlers ranked second and third respectively in the six-day contests.

For Iran, Abdul Rahman Moarefianpour in the 58-kilogram, Azad Ali Mohammadpour and Seyyed Mohammad Elhamian in the 69-kilogram, Bahram Seifkhani in the 76-kilogram, Reza Abdeli in the 85-kilogram, Behrouz Jamshidi in the 97-kilogram, and Bahauddin Karimzadeh in the 130-kilogram weight divisions clinched gold medals.

Seifollah Zare’ in the 63-kilogram, Faizollah Dehnavi in the 76-kilogram, Mohsen Shah Mohammadi in the 85-kilogram, Javad Haji Mohammadi, Gholam Hassan Mirzaei and Seyyed Mohammad Reza Hasheminasab in the 97-kilogram, and Jamshid Ghaderi plus Akbar Hekmati in the 130 kilogram weight classes picked up silver medals.

In the 58-kilogram, Gholam Reza Entezari, Omran Sadeqnia, Ahmad Soltanabadi and Seyyed Jamal Seyyed Mahmoud, 63-kilogram, Abbas Keshtkar, Assadollah Jalali, Qasem Seyyed Mahmoud, Abolqasem Farahmand, 76-kilogram, Mohammad Fahimi, 85-kilogram, Farzad Heydari, 97-kilogram, Majid Hekmati alongside Kiomarth Moradi, and 130-kilogram weight categories, Morteza Yar Mottaqi and Ali Siyahposht, settled for bronze.

The event brought together some 700 wrestlers from 41 countries, including Iran, the United States, Greece and Russia.

The United States team brought the largest delegation with more than 120 athletes followed by Iran with 100. Turkey had 90 representatives and there were 60 Russian athletes in attendance.
