Iran taekwondo fighter snatches gold in Kazakhstan tournament

Iranian taekwondo practitioner Armin Hadipour Seighalani has won gold at Kazakhstan Open Taekwondo Championships 2015 - WTF G1.

On Monday, the 20-year-old Iranian athlete snatched the gold medal in the men’s minus 54-kilogram weight division after he managed to down Uzbek contestant Valentin Khegay 12-7 in the final encounter of the category held at the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in the city of Almaty.

The young Iranian athlete overpowered Uzbek opponent Bakhrom Abdullaev 14-2 in his first competition, before beating Ayan Abdrash from Kazakhstan 14-1 in the next.

Hadipour Seighalani downed Darkhan Sadykov, another taekwondo fighter from Kazakhstan, in his semi-final contest and booked the ticket for the final.

The Kazakhstan Open Taekwondo Championships 2015 - WTF G1 opened in Almaty on October 25, and will wrap up on October 28.

The tournament has brought together some 369 competitors from 31 countries, including China, Egypt, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, the United States and Uzbekistan.

Armin Hadipour Seighalani, Mohammad Kazemi Foshazadeh, Behnam Asbaghi Khanghah, Farzad Zolghadri and Omid Amidi represent the Islamic Republic of Iran at the sporting event

Gold medalists will add 10 points to their qualification rankings for the 32nd edition of Olympic Games scheduled to be staged between August 5 and August 21, 2016 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, with 789 athletes participating in the sporting event.

Silver and bronze medalists at Kazakhstan taekwondo tournament will also add 6 and 3.6 points respectively to their 2016 Summer Olympics qualification rankings.
