Truth behind Gambia’s failed coup attempt

Next month, Gambia will mark 50 years of independence from colonial rule. Yet the big talk among Gambians is not the Golden Jubilee celebrations, but early January’s botched attempt to overthrow President Jammeh.

Dozens of military personnel and civilians were arrested and a large cache of weapons and explosives confiscated following a reported coup attempt in the West African country.

Intelligence sources close to Gambia's National Intelligence Agency (NIA) said that the detained suspects, held in or near the capital, Banjul, have been interrogated.

In this edition of Africa Today we will address the incident and ask: Who was really behind the coup and what was their wider agenda?
