Eight years of imposed war, and role of sacred defense

The Iran-Iraq War, known in Iran as the Sacred Defense, played a pivotal role in shaping the defense identity of the Islamic Republic.

This was not merely a war between Iran and Iraq. An international consortium of countries provided the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s regime with extensive military and financial support in a bid to defeat the Islamic Republic.

Ultimately, those efforts failed. The outcome was shaped by the resilience and bravery of the Iranian people, guided by the leadership of the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini.
