Former striker of Iran national football team and Persepolis Homayoun Behzadi has passed away at the age of 74 following a long battle against illness.
Behzadi was inducted into the Persepolis Hall of Fame by becoming the first man to score a hat-trick against arch-rivals Esteghlal in the Tehran derby, as he helped the Reds bag a 6-nil win over the Blues in 1973.
He also became the top goal-scorer at the AFC Asian Cup in 1968 and earned his place in the Asian Football Hall of Fame in 2014. He scored 13 goals in his 35 appearances for Iran in all competitions. Behzadi also won the Iranian league with Persepolis in 1972 and 1974.
