Kashmir’s first female broadcast journalist Shahana Butt reports from Kashmir conflict since 2007. She joined Press TV in 2008 as a correspondent-producer; since then, she has covered events and stories from India and Indian-administered Kashmir. Shahana Butt is a writer and a director of photography. She has made documentary films and presents programs.

Shahana Butt has worked on human rights related issues in Kashmir and India. She has covered Kashmir’s historic mass movement against India rule in 2008 and 2010. Of her significant works are coverage of the crisis of Rohingya refugees in India, India’s mass movement against corruption in 2010, India-Pakistan border tensions, gender discrimination in India, the spread of fascism in India and as well as the issues of Muslim minority in India.

Shahana Butt reported Kashmir crisis in the toughest conditions from Indian-administered Kashmir in August 2019 after India abrogated Kashmir’s special status. In the absence of the Internet services and civil curfew, which choked the communications from Kashmir to the outside world, she kept Press TV audience updated of the ongoing events in the region.

Besides Press TV, Shahana Butt has contributed to The Real New Network, Arise TV and supported independent film makers and writers in the region. She also contributes to a socio-political news magazine “The Indus Post”.

Shahana Butt has a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism with specialization in reporting and media management.
