A growing consensus emerges among EU ministers that the ISIL will never be defeated unless a peace settlement is reached in Syria. Britain remains adamant that it will not engage in dialog with the Syrian government but other EU countries believe that diplomacy is the only way toward peace.

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled the British government has breached the rights of prisoners by barring them from voting in elections. The claim was brought by lawyers of prisoners or former prisoners who were prevented from voting between 2009 and 2011.

In Egypt, another political party has boycotted the upcoming general elections in the country. The al-Dostour party's decision follows earlier ones by major parties.
