Iran committed to political, field support for Lebanon, says Hezbollah lawmaker

Lebanese lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah

A legislator from Hezbollah’s political wing has highlighted Iran’s unflagging support for Lebanon, saying Tehran has emphasized an end to the Israeli regime’s military offensives in Lebanon alongside ending the war against itself as one of its primary demands in the agreement with the United States.

“The first clause of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States underlines ending the Zionist regime’s military operations against Lebanon, and ensuring the withdrawal of occupying forces from all occupied Lebanese territories,” Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, stated on Friday.

Fadlallah said that thanks to Iran, despite numerous violations by the Israeli regime, a ceasefire was declared.

He argued that the Lebanese government has unfortunately entered into a humiliating agreement with Israel, and that Israeli authorities have asserted that the US-Iran MoU would not extend to Lebanon in light of their so-called framework agreement with the Lebanese government.

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hailed the free gift offered by the Beirut government. Iran still adheres to its positions and stances. Any escalation or expansion of the war against Lebanon will lead to a wider war in the entire region,” Fadlallah noted.

He stated that Iran’s support for Lebanon “comes in two forms: The Islamic Republic supports us on the battlefield, as well as in the political sphere.”

“Iranian officials have sent a message to Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, stating that Tehran will not enter into negotiations for a final agreement with Washington until Israeli aggression against Lebanon fully ends, and occupation forces completely withdraw from southern Lebanon,” the Lebanese legislator said.

Fadlallah stressed that Iran is practically working towards the goal. “This means the United States must force the Zionists to withdraw from Lebanese territory and stop their aggression if it wants an agreement with Iran.”

The Lebanese parliamentarian noted that the millions-strong funeral processions for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, as admitted by US President Donald Trump, shocked both the United States and Israel.

“He deceived himself by mistakenly believing that a war of aggression against Iran would overthrow the country’s political establishment. This is while the massive farewell and funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Khamenei were not simply an expression of emotions, but rather conveyed a message from millions of Iranians, Iraqis, and Lebanese citizens that they strictly adhere to their principles and ideals,” Fadlallah said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Fadlallah said Lebanese authorities signed a unilateral agreement written by Zionists in Washington, arguing that not a single clause of the deal is in the interest of Lebanon.

It rather consolidates the Israeli military occupation, endangers the sovereignty of the country and places it under American-Zionist tutelage, and even grants Zionist criminals immunity from punishment, he said.

“The Lebanese government sold out southern Lebanon, and presented it as a gift to Netanyahu. It is now looking to test us. We are neither a testing ground nor a nation for sale. Our land is not for the Zionists to build settlements. Lebanon will never be a base or a conduit for any settlement of the occupiers. It won’t be exploited for the sake of any deal that the Lebanese government has made,” Fadlallah concluded.
