UAE shuts down Iran’s Red Crescent hospital in Dubai, freezes assets

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has forcibly shut down the Iranian Red Crescent Hospital in Dubai, expelled patients from the facility, frozen its assets, and subjected its director to daily interrogations, according to the head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society.

Pirhossein Kolivand said on Tuesday that Emirati authorities closed the hospital despite legal protections governing its activities.

“Unfortunately, they forcibly shut down the hospital and removed patients from the facility in violation of laws and regulations,” Kolivand said.

He added that the hospital’s director has been placed under a travel ban and is being summoned daily for questioning and legal proceedings.

Kolivand also said a court order had frozen the hospital’s cash assets and outstanding receivables, while members of the hospital staff had been evicted from their staff housing in Dubai.

He said Tehran has filed complaints with international bodies and would continue pursuing the case through legal channels.

“We will follow up on all these issues through international institutions and continue our complaints until a result is achieved,” he said.

The Iranian Red Crescent Hospital in Dubai has operated for decades and provided medical services to Iranian nationals and other residents in the UAE.

Since the United States and Israel launched their unprovoked war against Iran in late February, several Persian Gulf states have intensified anti-Iran measures, including media campaigns and crackdowns on Iranian-linked institutions and individuals.

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal revealed that Abu Dhabi played a far larger role in the aggression than previously known, carrying out dozens of strikes against Iranian targets and providing support for military operations.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the report said Emirati forces continued some operations even after a ceasefire was announced in early April. One of the strikes targeted an oil refinery on Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf just hours after the truce took effect.

Iranian authorities have repeatedly warned that the UAE was facilitating US and Israeli military strikes by providing intelligence on Iranian targets and individuals, and making its territory and air facilities available for attacks against the Islamic Republic.
