Policeman killed, three wounded in terrorist shooting in southeast Iran

The file photo shows Iranian border guards in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Armed terrorists opened fire on a police patrol that was providing security for citizens in the city of Zahedan, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

One officer, identified as First Constable Muhammad Reza Nezam-Doost, was martyred and three others were wounded in the cowardly assassination attempt.

Separately, armed terrorists attacked a vehicle belonging to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) in the border county of Rask in the early hours of Wednesday, Tasnim reported.

The attackers aimed to damage the vehicle but failed due to the vigilance and resistance of IRGC forces, who forced them to flee. Authorities said the pursuit of the terrorists continues until their arrest or elimination.

In Khuzestan province, police identified and arrested one of the main operational elements affiliated with the terrorist MKO group in his hideout, the police information center announced.

Initial investigations showed that before the start of the Ramadan war, the terrorist and his associates carried out armed attacks on religious and government sites and fired at police patrols, wounding two officers.

The suspect was also a main leader of the riots in January 2026. He set fire to a bank branch and several ATMs using homemade incendiary materials and distributed Molotov cocktails among rioters.

According to the police information center, the suspect was in contact with despised MKO group cells through cyberspace, received training in making explosives, and procured weapons and a motorcycle for terrorist activities.
