An Iranian retaliatory drone strike at an American airbase in Kuwait has injured 15 American personnel, a report says, amid Washington’s attempts at understating the extent of the American casualties resulting from Tehran’s retaliatory operations.

CBS News carried the report on Monday, citing two US officials, who identified the target as the Ali al-Salem Airbase, a key hub for US operations in the West Asia region.

Also on Monday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced carrying out the 98th wave of Operation True Promise 4, as part of which it struck several military aircraft stationed at the base, using missiles and drones.

The retaliatory operation began immediately after the United States and the Israeli regime began their latest bout of unprovoked aggression targeting the Islamic Republic on February 28.

The operation has dealt heavy blows to American bases and interests across the region as well as sensitive and strategic targets throughout the occupied territories, with the Iranian Armed Forces pledging to sustain the counteroffensive until the enemies’ “complete defeat.”

On Friday, The Intercept reported that hundreds of US troops had been either killed or wounded in Iranian strikes, adding that the US Department of War was playing down the casualties.

The outlet cited an instance when CENTCOM, which oversees military operations in West Asia, withheld information about the injury of at least 15 US troops during an Iranian counterstrike targeting an airbase hosting American forces in Saudi Arabia.

It quoted a spokesperson’s note that, since the start of the American-Israeli aggression, “approximately 303 US service members have been wounded,” besides citing a defense official as saying that CENTCOM was apparently engaged in a “casualty cover-up.”
