The head of Cuba’s Finlay Vaccine Institute has strongly condemned the US-Israeli attack on Iran’s Pasteur Institute, saying more than a century of scientific history was “destroyed in minutes.”

In a post on his X account, Yury Valdés wrote that “more than 100 years of history at the Pasteur Institute of Iran were destroyed in a matter of minutes.”

He described the incident as an act driven by “the arrogance of empires and the egotistical delusions of a murderous US president.”

Iran’s Pasteur Institute said  that shockwaves and shrapnel from US and Israeli attacks on April 2 had caused damage to its central complex, destroying some buildings and seriously affecting several units and laboratories.

The institute is a research, production, service, and educational organization established with the goal of ensuring public health.

Throughout its history, it has played a key role in controlling many infectious diseases both in the country and worldwide. Since 1920, this institute has been one of the pioneers and key hubs of vaccine production in the region.
