US Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has slammed “manic” American President Donald Trump for having “zero planning and strategy” for his aggression against Iran, warning that the fault for the ensuing “chaos” in West Asia is “entirely” with him.
In a pair of posts on X, Senate Minority Leader Schumer denounced Trump for causing “chaos” in West Asia and blamed him for “incompetence” on Wednesday, four days after the United States, along with its closest regional ally Israel, started an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran.
“The fault for the chaos in the Middle East is entirely with Donald Trump. Trump is manic. Whatever pops into his head, he says immediately. He picks one plan one day. Then he picks the total opposite the other. He doesn't think it through. He doesn't check the facts. And nobody around him has the guts to stand up to him and tell him: Mr. President, you're wrong,” Schumer stressed.
In response to the agression, the naval and aerospace units of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Islamic Republic’s national military forces have launched massive missile strikes against US military assets in regional countries and on targets in the Israeli-occupied territories since the weekend.
Iran’s escalating strikes have prompted Washington to close its embassies and urging Americans to flee the region.
“More Trump chaos and incompetence. Hundreds of Americans, including many New Yorkers, are stranded across the Middle East, and the State Department’s message is basically 'good luck.’ Evacuation warnings were issued three days into the war, with airspace shut down and no U.S. government flights in place. This is what happens when you recklessly gut the State Department under DOGE and rush into a war with no plan. Zero planning, zero strategy, and now Americans are paying the price,” Schumer said, blaming Trump for the chaos in the region.
Schumer’s remarks come as a resolution to require Trump to seek congressional approval for any further action in Iran failed to advance in the Senate.
On Tuesday, Minority Leader of the US House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries also said that Trump lies about Iran.
Speaking after the briefing session for senior Congress members with Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jeffries referred to Trump’s previous claim that US strikes at the end of the 12-day war in June last year had “completely and totally obliterated” Iran's nuclear capabilities.
“Clearly he was lying to the American people, or he’s lying right now,” Jeffries stressed, adding, “I plan to press them on the claim that Donald Trump himself made about the Iranian nuclear program and what the great urgency is right now.”
The developments come as the Islamic Republic has stressed that it would determine the end of war, not the invading US-Israeli coalition.
“Bombings in our capital have no impact on our ability to conduct war. Decentralized Mosaic Defense enables us to decide when—and how—war will end,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday.
