A senior Iranian military official has warned the United States not to mistake Iran for other countries, saying Tehran would respond decisively to any act of aggression.
Brigadier General Rasoul Sanaei-Rad, political deputy of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces’ ideological-political office, said the United States “should not mistake our country for nations... Iran is neither Libya, nor Syria, nor Venezuela.”
Washington began its war rhetoric against Iran after recent economic protests in the country, which were hijacked by foreign spy agencies and turned violent.
Since then, the US president has kept threatening military aggression against Iran, deploying two carrier groups and dozens of fighter jets, bombers, and refueling aircraft to regional waters near Iran.
Sanaei-Rad noted that recent movements of US naval forces in the region are aimed at projecting power but will not intimidate Iran.
"What we are witnessing now is a kind of show of strength by the enemies, so that perhaps they can use it for the negotiation table, but this is also wrong, because at the negotiation table, we also have the same support of the eight-year Sacred Defense and the 12-day war," he said, referring to the Iraqi war on Iran in the 1980s and the US-Israeli war in June.
Sanaei-Rad said Washington misjudges Iran’s capabilities and public resolve, stating that any military miscalculation would bring heavy material and reputational costs for the United States. He also warned that any confrontation could escalate beyond the region.
He further slammed Israel for influencing US assessments, saying “miscalculations” in Washington stem partly from Israeli pressure.
“The Americans must have understood the essence of the issue after confronting the Yemenis, even at a much lower level and scale; therefore, if they make a mistake” he said, “Iran's response will be decisive and crushing, and the result could be a regional war, even one with dimensions beyond the region.”
He warned that any confrontation would not only harm the United States but would also create insecurity extending beyond the region and affecting its allies.
He added that the “Zionist regime,” which feels it is sinking, would spare no country — including the United States — and would be willing to drag others into broader instability.
Brigadier General Alireza Elhami, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, also said hostile psychological campaigns would not undermine Iran’s morale.
Referring to current regional developments, he stressed the importance of strengthening domestic capabilities and enhancing technical expertise.
“We must continue the path of progress with hope for the future and confidence in our internal capabilities, and not allow the enemy’s psychological propaganda to weaken our morale,” he said.
