Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated the heads of state of Muslim countries on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a message issued on Wednesday, Pezeshkian described Ramadan as an opportunity for self-purification and spiritual perfection, adding that the holy month has a unifying impact on Muslims, helping them increase cooperation to address the issues facing the Islamic countries.
He expressed hope that this year’s Ramadan would enable Muslim nations to strengthen their cooperation and counter the “sinister plots hatched by the world's bullies, expansionists, and those who oppose justice.”
“Through aggression, war, and bloodshed, and by creating internal unrest and discord among Islamic countries, they are trying to target peace, security, territorial integrity, and development of [Muslim] nations, and to plunder their human dignity and vital national resources,” the Iranian president said in his message.
The holy month of Ramadan began in some Muslim countries on Wednesday, while others, including Iran and Iraq, have declared Thursday as its first day.
Muslims fast from dawn to dusk during Ramadan and gather for prayers, charity, and communal meals to mark the blessed month.
