Iran’s security chief meets with Yemen’s Ansarullah movement spokesman in Oman

Iran’s top security official has met with a senior Yemeni negotiator, as the Arab country’s ruling Ansarullah movement has already warned that any act of aggression against the Islamic Republic would have consequences far beyond the geographical borders of the West Asia region.

During a visit to Oman, Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) met with Mohammed Abdul-Salam, head of the Yemeni negotiating delegation and spokesman for Yemen's Ansarullah popular resistance movement, in the capital Muscat on Tuesday.

The meeting came amid threats of military confrontation between the United States and Iran, as tensions have escalated in recent days.

The escalation follows the arrival of a flotilla of US warships in regional waters near Iran, a significant US military build-up near the Islamic Republic, and President Donald Trump’s repeated threats of military action against Tehran if indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran in Oman fail.

This is while Iran has stated that even a single shot would be met with a massive response, and it has ruled out diplomacy while being under threats.

During the meeting, Abdul-Salam congratulated Iran on the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Emphasizing the resilience and strength of Iran, he also stressed that the Islamic Republic, under the leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, continues its path with momentum and dynamism.

“The Islamic Revolution, by virtue of the wise leadership of Ayatollah Khamenei, the high level of awareness of the Iranian nation, and the capability of the armed forces, is moving forward with growing strength and dynamism,” Abdul-Salam stressed.

Referring to recent developments, Yemen’s Ansarullah movement spokesman added that “after the 12-day war [in June last year] and the neutralization of the [recent] sedition on which the enemies had pined their special hopes, Iran has emerged stronger with a firmer resolve than before to confront challenges.”

Under Ansarullah’s leadership, Yemen has conducted significant anti-US operations in regional waters, especially since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023.

Larijani traveled to Oman as part of Tehran’s regular consultations with Muscat to discuss regional developments, strengthen bilateral relations, and exchange views on key political and security issues, particularly the nuclear negotiations.

Iran’s security chief held a three-hour meeting with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, described by sources close to the Iranian delegation as positive and constructive, and also met with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during his visit to Muscat.

Larijani is also expected to travel to Qatar.

Over the past decade, Oman, acting as a diplomatic channel, has played a mediator role in facilitating indirect talks between Iran and the United States to help reduce misunderstandings.

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has warned Americans to remain vigilant about the “destructive role of the Zionists.”

During Larijani’s current visit, in addition to reviewing the latest regional political and security developments, discussions are expected to cover the indirect Iran-US talks mediated by Oman.

A new round of the indirect talks took place Muscat on Friday. 

Speaking to IRIB news agency after the talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who led the Iranian negotiating team, described the talks as a good start, saying that Iran’s positions and concerns were clearly conveyed to the US negotiators.

In an interview with Russia Today on Tuesday, the top Iranian diplomat said that Iran doesn’t fully trust the US, but a deal was still possible.
