Palestinians returning to Gaza north

Thousands of displaced Palestinians have begun returning to Gaza’s north after the beginning of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. The deal went into effect at 12 pm local time. Israel’s Ministry of military affairs says regime forces have completed the first phase of withdrawal from Gaza. It says troops have now pulled out to a point where they have control over 53% of Gaza, adding that most of those areas fall outside the urban zone. The IOF says the 72-hour period to release all 48 remaining Israeli captives has now started. Israel has released a list naming 250 Palestinian prisoners it has agreed to release. Unconditional aid entering Gaza is also part of the deal, but there’s no word yet on any aid entering the enclave. Around 600 trucks are expected to enter daily under the ceasefire agreement.

Pro-Palestine rallies

Tens of thousands of Yemenis have rallied nationwide to emphasize their support for Palestinians. Waving Palestinian and Yemeni flags, the demonstrators condemned the Israeli crimes in Gaza. Major cities in Yemen have been the scene of Friday rallies in support of the war-ridden Gaza Strip since the genocide was unleashed there in October 2023. Yemenis had vowed in previous rallies that they would continue their mass gatherings until Israel ends the genocide in Gaza and the siege of the Palestinian territory. Their fresh large rally comes despite Israel’s announcement that it approved a ceasefire agreement during a cabinet meeting.

Iran slams US actions in the Caribbean

Iran condemns the United States’ destabilizing and provocative actions in the Caribbean and Latin America, especially its recent military maneuvers against Venezuela, calling them a threat to regional peace and security. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei warned of the global consequences of Washington’s aggressive unilateralism. He denounced US military attacks on fishing boats in the region and its threats against Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Baghaei described these actions as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and the core principles of international law. This comes as Venezuela’s armed forces held a military exercise on Thursday, preparing for a potential US attack. Tensions between Caracas and Washington have escalated since early September, when the US launched deadly strikes on boats it claimed were smuggling drugs. Venezuela has rejected those allegations.
