A Palestinian man has been killed and three others were injured when illegal Israeli settlers attacked a community in the central sector of the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian medical sources.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, reported that Jihad Mohammad Ajaj, 26, was fatally shot by illegal settlers in Deir Jarir village on Wednesday evening.
Three others were hospitalized with moderate to critical injuries at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah.
According to Fathi Hammad, head of Deir Jarir Village Council, an armed settler hurled stones at Palestinian-licensed vehicles on the road linking the village to Silwad town.
WAFA reported that the illegal settler opened fire on a group of young men at the entrance to the village, injuring four, including Ajaj.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said its medics had provided first aid treatment to Ajaj, who was shot by several bullets, before rushing him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Earlier on Wednesday, the PRCS said that its teams transported two people injured in a settler attack in the village of Atara, north of Ramallah.
One of the victims, a 50-year-old man, was shot in the pelvis with live fire.
Israel has ramped up its aggression against Palestinians across the West Bank since October 7, 2023, when it launched a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.
Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed and thousands of others injured by Israeli settlers or troops across the occupied territory since the onset of the war.
More than 700,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds.
The international community views the settlements as illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions due to their construction on the occupied territories.
