President Masoud Pezeshkian says there is no distance between the people of Iran and Pakistan, expressing interest in strengthening and deepening bilateral relations in all areas by removing obstacles to expanded cooperation.
Speaking at a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday in China, where the 25th SCO summit is being held, Pezeshkian expressed his deep belief that Muslim countries should work together seriously to solve common problems.
"It is unacceptable to me that Islamic societies face poverty, conflict, and numerous problems; why shouldn't we be able to work together to solve problems?” he asked.
He expressed his belief that if elites and activists across various fields in the Islamic world collaborate with determination and will to address challenges, the foundation will be laid “for solving problems and achieving common lofty goals.”
Pezeshkian expressed Iran’s readiness to work with Pakistan “in various fields to bring peace, prosperity, and double tranquility to the two nations and the nations of the region."
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president referred to the escalation of Israel’s crimes in Gaza, noting "I am astonished that the world, which claims to be civilized and a defender of human rights and peace, has not only chosen silence in the face of these crimes but, by sending equipment and weapons, also supports their continuation."
“It is absolutely unacceptable and inhumane for people to be deprived of water, food, and medicine, and for children, women, and men to die of hunger," he said, pointing to the Israeli-imposed starvation in Gaza.
The Pakistani Prime Minister, for his part, stated that Iran and Pakistan, as two members of the Islamic bloc in the region, can and indeed need to cooperate in achieving lofty Islamic goals.
“All Muslims and Islamic countries must unite against the genocide and crimes of Israel in Gaza and the violation of Palestinian rights, and defend their rights loudly,” he underscored.
He also hailed Pezeshkian’s recent visit to Pakistan as “very constructive and beneficial,” adding that it had a “constructive impact on strengthening friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries, which raised the mutual understanding of the two sides to higher levels."
He also called for an acceleration of the visit's outcomes by increasing the exchange of delegations, noting that bilateral cooperation is progressing positively across various fields.
