A senior Iranian lawmaker says he has proposed to the top security body that the head of the UN nuclear agency, Rafael Grossi, be permanently banned from entering the country.

Esmaeil Kowsari, a senior lawmaker and member of the parliament's national security and foreign policy committee, made the remarks on Monday, reflecting mounting criticism in the country over Grossi’s facilitation of Israeli-US aggression against Iran.

Kowsari, a former Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander, said he has urged the Supreme National Security Council to impose an entry ban on the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

If the proposal is accepted, it will prevent Grossi from visiting the Islamic Republic and affect cooperation between the country and the UN nuclear watchdog.

The IAEA continues to monitor nuclear facilities in Iran, but the agency has come under blistering criticism for allowing itself to be hijacked by the Israeli regime.

Based on Grossi’s politically-motivated reports, the IAEA Board of Governors passed an anti-Iran resolution on June 12, claiming that the country is in breach of its nuclear obligations.

Meanwhile, Iran, referencing secret documents obtained from Israel, noted that Grossi has been actively executing the directives of the Israeli regime against Iran.

Shortly after the resolution was passed, Israel carried out multiple acts of aggression on Iranian territory, targeting high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians. The Natanz nuclear facility was also among the sites struck.

On Sunday, the US bombed the Natanz, Fordow, and Esfahan nuclear sites in violation of the United Nations Charter, international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Grossi failed to condemn the attacks, drawing criticisms from Iranian officials.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said the head of the UN nuclear watchdog “has become a tool in the hands of the Zionist regime and the US” and thus an accomplice in their crimes against the Iranian nation.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Grossi has "betrayed" the non-proliferation regime and made the IAEA "a partner to an unjust war of aggression."

"We will hold IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi accountable after the war ends," Ali Larijani, an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, warned.

Meanwhile, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, stressed that Tehran will take all necessary legal and sovereign measures to defend its rights, and hold the IAEA chief responsible for failing to act in the face of the Israeli onslaught on the country.
