Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has strongly condemned the US military aggression on Iranian soil, saying Washington’s actions are “unprecedentedly dangerous” and a “betrayal of diplomacy.”

Following the US aggression on three peaceful Iranian nuclear sites of Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan on Sunday, in an interview with CNN Baghaei said what US President Donald Trump did was “complete bullying.”

“You attack a country and then threaten it again with more attacks. I think this is a manifestation of systematic institutionalized bullying at the global level,” he stated.

Baghaei asserted Tehran’s legitimate right to self-defense, saying the Islamic Republic “will certainly act on this right.”

Referring to the tensions in the region, Baghaei warned that the situation is “unprecedentedly dangerous” because now everyone falsely perceives it as a success for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who dragged the US into the regime’s war, he said.

Answering the question whether this is the end of diplomacy between Iran and the US, Baghaei said that “diplomacy never ends; that is a rule, that’s a principle for Iranians.”

He added that Iran never left the negotiating table, but now what they are witnessing is a “betrayal of diplomacy by the Trump administration.”

Stressing that no one knows what will happen next, Baghaei said “what is sure is that the responsibility for the consequences of this war must be borne by the US and its ally Israel.”

Baghaei underscored that Iran has “exhausted all efforts for diplomacy and peace,” and added that “history will not forgive what the US government has done.”

The Israeli regime launched an unprovoked aggression on the Islamic Republic last Friday, with American backing, assassinating many top-ranking military commanders, scientists and ordinary civilians, including women and children.

After more than a week, the US decided to finally make it official with direct intervention in the war that the Israeli regime has been losing.

In the early hours of Sunday, the US launched unlawful strikes against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, in a clear violation of international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday called on the international community to take a clear stand, warning that the United Nations Charter itself is under attack.

“The international community must take a stand, because it is not just Iran that is being threatened, it’s the very foundations of international law that are being challenged,” he said, calling it a blatant threat against a sovereign nation.

Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, speaking at an emergency session of the UN Security Council on Monday, strongly condemned the US military aggression on Iranian soil, saying Tehran reserves the right to defend itself under international law.
