The Iranian foreign minister and director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have discussed bilateral cooperation on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi held a phone conversation on Friday.
They also discussed the latest developments regarding indirect talks between Iran and the United States amid reports that Tehran and Washington may hold a new round of indirect talks in the Omani capital Muscat on Sunday.
The meeting had initially been scheduled for May 3, but it was postponed due to "logistical and technical reasons".
The two sides have already held three rounds of indirect talks, mediated by Oman, on Tehran’s nuclear program and the removal of US sanctions.
In a meeting with Grossi in Tehran on April 16, Araghchi once again urged the IAEA to adopt a clear and transparent position regarding the threats that have been made by various parties against the country’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
The Iranian foreign minister urged the United Nations nuclear watchdog to ensure it remained impartial and did not succumb to external political pressures.
Araghchi later wrote on his X account that the IAEA can play a crucial role in peaceful settlement of Iran’s nuclear file.
