Qalibaf: Iran to continue support for resistance as 'religious' duty

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the continuation of the Islamic Republic’s support for the resistance front will be among the “most important and leading” strategies to ensure national security and boost power.

Addressing an open session of the parliament on Thursday, Qalibaf said Iran explicitly announces that it will continue to support resistance as a “religious and national” duty.

He added that Muslin nations and free people across the world have come to realize the “criminal and dangerous” nature of the Israeli regime, adding, “We are confident that the thriving … concept of resistance will expand more rapidly throughout the region.”

The top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized that the fall of the government of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad will surely cause disruption in the path of resistance.

“However, the resistance front’s groups, especially Hezbollah in Lebanon, have shown that they will not only adapt to the new situation very soon, but will also act more dynamically and strongly than ever.”

Despite the assassination of top Hezbollah commanders, the resistance emerged more strongly and forced the Israeli regime to acceding its defeat and accepting a ceasefire agreement, Qalibaf emphasized.

In his first remarks since the fall of Assad’s government in Syria, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday quashed speculation about the weakening of the resistance front, assuring that the resistance axis will become stronger.

“This is what the resistance is; this is what the resistance front is. The more you push, the stronger it becomes; the more you commit crimes, the more motivated it becomes. The more you fight with them, the more widespread it will be, and I tell you, by the Divine Power, the resistance will expand more than before to cover the entire region,” the Leader said.

Elsewhere in his address, Qalibaf pointed to “inevitable” developments that took place in Syria last week when militants and Takfiri terrorists overran the Syrian capital, and said Iran had warned the Arab country’s government about conspiracy of the interfering sides.

He said the Syrian people would not have been engaged in internal chaos and settling sectarian differences if Iran’s warnings had been heeded and the path of dialogue with the people and achieving national unity had been pursued.

The Parliament speaker further noted that Iran would make necessary decisions about its ties with Syria in proportionate to the actions of the armed opposition in the country.

“The region is in the midst of rapid transformation towards a new order. If we are passive, we would face great challenges, but if we are vigilant, great opportunities will arise from these challenges,” Qalibaf emphasized.

He noted that Iran has learnt how to turn the existing threats into biggest opportunities.
