US-Israeli Gaza genocide
The Israeli war machine continues its genocidal campaign in Gaza, claiming more Palestinian lives across the besieged strip. In just 24 hours, Israeli forces killed at least 20 Palestinians and injured 76 others in their attacks. A strike in the south of Gaza City resulted in the deaths of 4 Palestinians, including a child and a woman. Separately, 6 Palestinians, including two children, were killed in an airstrike on a family's home southeast of the city. Shelling in northern Gaza and the Nuseirat refugee camp killed 6 Palestinians, with several others injured. Additionally, a bombing at a bakery in the Sumoud refugee camp led to more casualties among displaced Palestinians in the southern city of Khan Yunis. The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing US-Israeli onslaught has now surpassed 41,200, with over 95,000 others injured.
Israel rights violations
United Nations rights experts have condemned Israel's escalating aggression and rights violations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, saying the regime is becoming an international “pariah.” She also called into question Israel’s membership at the United Nations. Albanese, who is the UN's special rapporteur on the rights situation in Palestine, was speaking during a press conference in Geneva. The UN special rapporteur on the promotion of democratic and equitable international order also slammed major powers' silence and double standards in the face of the genocide in Gaza. Meanwhile, the UN special rapporteur on the rights to safe drinking water said Israel’s deprivation of water in the besieged Gaza Strip was, in his words, clearly employed as a weapon.
Israel crimes in Gaza
The UN chief says Israel has inflicted "unimaginable" suffering on Palestinians in Gaza and must be held to account for all civilian deaths. Antonio Guterres says he has never seen anything like the level of deaths and destruction in Gaza since taking the helm at the U-N. Guterres also pointed to the Gaza ceasefire talks, saying they are “endless” and it would be "very difficult" to reach a compromise. The UN chief also slammed Israel’s illegal land grabbing, evictions, and construction of new settlements. He said those violations come within the context of the Israeli occupation, which, according to the International Court of Justice, is itself illegal.
