Russian troops have liberated another village in Donbas, capturing Chigari village east of Ukraine in People's Republic, Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Sunday its forces captured another village in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region as its troops continue to progress, making territorial advancements in the region.

"As a result of active operations, units of the Tsentr Battlegroup have liberated the village of Chigari in the Donetsk People's Republic and improved their tactical position," the Ministry stated, adding that the Tsentr Battlegroup also repelled six counterattacks by Ukrainian troops during the day.

The Tsentr Battlegroup units also repelled six attacks over the past day, with Ukrainian forces losing up to 340 soldiers, a tank, and a Bradley infantry fighting vehicle.

Moscow declared its forces had taken control of another small village in the same region on Saturday. Kiev, however, claims the fiercest fighting across the frontline is taking place there.

Meanwhile, Russian troops have been making continuous advancements on the battlefield since the start of the year.

But its progress has been grinding as the conflict looks locked in an attritional phase, with neither side able to punch a decisive breakthrough and both saying they are inflicting heavy casualties on the other.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday repeated his demand for Ukraine to withdraw from the region, along with three others in the south and east of the country, if it wants peace.

Since 2014, pro-Kiev forces, which were armed and supported by the US-led alliance of Western countries, have been persecuting the pro-Moscow majority population in Donbas.

However, Russia eventually decided to launch a special military operation in eastern Ukraine in February 2022.

The objective of the military campaign was to put an end to the ongoing atrocities against the Russian-speaking people of the region.

It also aimed to stop the encroachment of US-led NATO troops on Russian borders.
