Lebanon has warned that Israel seeks to expand the current war to the entire region.

The government says it intends to file a complaint at the United Nations over the occupying regime’s ceaseless attacks on the Arab country.

In a statement on Wednesday, Beirut said Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib had already instructed departments in the ministry to submit a complaint to the UN Security Council.

It added that the formal complaint would be submitted through the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the UN in New York after a series of Israeli attacks considered the most violent on the 11th and 12th of the current month.

The ministry warned that Tel Aviv desired to “expand the conflict and drag the whole region to war”, saying that Israel’s attacks have grown increasingly “violent”, killing and wounding numerous innocent civilians within residential areas in Lebanon.

“Such aggressive actions could serve as the spark for a regional war” it noted, adding that Israel “sees this as an opportunity to break free from its internal deadlock.”

Israel has been striking Lebanon since the beginning of the regime’s hostilities in the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7, after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has prompted retaliatory strikes from the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement in support of the Palestinians in the blockaded area. The Lebanese movement has vowed to keep up its retaliatory operations as long as the regime continues its onslaught on Gaza.

In a series of attacks on Monday and Tuesday, Israeli warplanes struck the Bekaa Valley region, reportedly striking Hezbollah targets in the area. At least one person was killed, and several others wounded.

“What is particularly concerning is that this escalation is occurring in areas far from the southern Lebanese borders,” Lebanon’s foreign ministry added.

Elsewhere in the statement on Wednesday, the ministry underscored the need for the international community to “pressure Israel to halt its continuous escalating attacks, and once again calls for the condemnation by all members of the Security Council of Israeli attacks against Lebanon.”

Furthermore, it also urged members of the UNSC to condemn the Israeli assault on Lebanon and to work toward implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701 in a bid to establish lasting stability and security along the Arab country’s southern borders.

In mid-February, an Israeli strike knocked down part of a building in the southern Lebanese city of Nabatiyeh, killing seven members of the same family, including a child. A boy initially reported missing was found alive under the rubble.

Since the beginning of the current war, the occupying regime has also killed more than 31,000 Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, most of them women and children.
