Amid simmering anti-US sentiment over Washington’s support for the Israeli air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, Iraqi anti-terror resistance groups have carried out an attack against a US military installation in the eastern Syrian province of Dayr al-Zawr.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, in a statement published on its Telegram channel claimed responsibility for the rocket strike against the facility that houses US troops at the Conoco gas field.

The group noted that the attack was carried out in retaliation for US support of Israel’s bloody war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

There were no immediate reports about the extent of damage at the military facility, or possible casualties.

The United States, Israel’s biggest ally, has provided the regime with arms and ammunitions since the initiation of the Gaza war.

The US House of Representatives on November 2 passed a standalone $14.3-billion military assistance package for Israel. The legislation, however, is yet to clear the Senate.

Washington has also vetoed United Nations Security Council resolutions that called on the occupying regime to cease its aggression.

Israel waged the war on October 7 after the Gaza Strip-based Palestinian resistance groups of Hamas and Islamic Jihad carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm into the occupied territories in response to the occupying regime’s intensified crimes against the Palestinian people.

According to the Gaza-based health ministry, at least 23,843 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the strikes, and another 60,317 individuals injured. Tel Aviv has also imposed a “complete siege” on Gaza, cutting off fuel, electricity, food, and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
