Iran FM calls on Muslim regional officials to take action as Israel presses ahead with war on Gaza

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian (R) meets with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in the Saudi city of Jeddah on October 18, 2023.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has asked his regional counterparts to take more action to end the escalating situation in the small Palestinian territory of Gaza.

Amir-Abdollahian said in a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Wednesday that the situation in the Middle East was at a precarious point as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression against Gaza.

He said in the meeting held in the Saudi city of Jeddah that the situation in Palestine could spiral out of control if Israel did not stop committing crimes in Gaza.

The top Iranian diplomat also appreciated Saudi Arabia’s position on developments in Palestine while thanking the kingdom for proposing and hosting an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah to discuss the Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Iran has warned in recent days that anti-Israeli resistance groups in the region could start engaging Israel if the regime did not stop its brutal war against the people in Gaza.

Amir-Abdollahian reiterated in the meeting with Bin Farhan that time is of the essence in the developments surrounding the Palestinian conflict while calling for an immediate end to the conflict.

For his part, Bin Farhan expressed his regret about the dire situation of the people living in Gaza while saying that Riyadh would continue its efforts to protect the Palestinians against the Israeli regime by seeking an end to the conflict.

While in Jeddah to attend the OIC meeting on Wednesday, Amir-Abdollahian also met with Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs Soltan bin Saad al-Muraikhi.

During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat criticized the United States for its continued efforts to support the Zionist regime of Israel.

He said US President Joe Biden’s visit to Tel Aviv on Wednesday, which came a day after a deadly attack on a hospital in Gaza that left 500 people dead, was a sign of Washington’s unwavering support for the Israeli regime.

Muraikhi admitted in the meeting that West’s support for Israel gave a green light to the regime to continue its criminal acts against the Palestinians.
