Imam Khomeini challenged US-led global system of hegemony: Politician

By Syed  Zafar Mehdi

Imam Khomeini, the architect of the Islamic Revolution and Islamic revival, challenged the global system of hegemony led by the United States, according to a senior Pakistani politician and former senator.

Prof Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, who is currently serving as the deputy chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, the largest religious-political party of Pakistan, in an interview with the Press TV website on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the passing of Imam Khomeini hailed him as a true revolutionary leader.

He said the late founder of the Islamic Revolution stood up to the Western hegemonic powers led by the US as well as the Iranian monarch who was “an American agent and advanced US colonial ambitions”.

Imam Khomeini passed away late on June 3, 1989, ten years after he established the Islamic Republic.

His funeral features in the Guinness world record for the record number of people who took part in it – more than 10 million. Sunday marks the 34th anniversary of his passing.

Prof. Khan said Imam Khomeini “challenged the local and global colonial entities with empty hands, with just faith in Allah”, referring to his struggles along the way, including years spent in exile.

“Finally the Shah and his colonial master America had to kneel before Imam Khomeini,” he asserted.

The former Pakistani senator said Imam Khomeini’s mission was “the end of colonialism and hegemony and the establishment of a system based on justice and fairness at a global level”.

The mission, he said, is yet to be completed as the US hegemony continues.

“Those who follow Imam Khomeini as the leader have to carry forward this mission and bring it to the conclusion,” he told the Press TV website.

He also hailed the late founder of the Islamic Revolution for espousing the cause of unity and brotherhood among Muslims and said Muslims must hold firm to the rope of unity.

“For the completion of his (Imam Khomeini) mission, it (unity) is one of the conditions,” Prof. Khan added, noting that Pakistan and Iran, as two Muslim countries, “can make this goal easily possible”.

Prof. Khan is among the senior-most members of the Jamaat-e-Islami party in Pakistan and has served as deputy chief of the party for several years.

He has also represented the party in the Senate of Pakistan.
