The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has condemned repeated assaults by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Hamas urged the international community to take "effective action" against the crimes of Israel.

The resistance group made the remarks in a statement released on Saturday, after crowds of Israeli settlers raided the village of Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah, earlier in the day, the Palestinian Information Center reported.

“Israeli colonial settlers continue to attack and terrorize our Palestinian people across the occupied West Bank” under Israel’s protection, the statement said.

It added that the crimes committed by Israeli military and settlers “require effective Arab and international action to support Palestinian people and their just cause, condemn the Israeli occupation, and hold its leaders accountable for their crimes and violations of all international norms and conventions threatening peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Israeli settlers raided Palestinians working on their land on Saturday, wounding at least five people and torching vehicles. Marzouq Abu Naim, a councilor at Mughayyir, said around 270 bales of hay and five cars parked on the side of the fields were torched during the attack.

According to Palestinian media, the settlers, accompanied by Israeli soldiers, threw stones and fired bullets at Palestinian farmers.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the number of injured. A victim is in a serious condition after being shot in the head by Israeli troops.

Amin Abu Alia, the president of Mughayyir village council, said "settlers used live bullets, stones and sticks" in the assault, adding the Israeli military fired teargas canisters at the Palestinian farmers to protect the settlers.

He said the two main entrances to Mughayyir, which has been repeatedly attacked by settlers over the years, have remained blocked by the Israeli military for two weeks, forcing residents to take long and rough roads to reach their workplaces.

Meanwhile, the European Union has denounced the settler attacks in Mughayyir, calling on Israel to take decisive steps to ensure accountability and protect the Palestinians in line with its obligations under the international law.

UN figures show settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied territories have grown at an alarming rate in recent years.
