Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths on Tuesday in Tehran, the second such meeting this year.

Back in February 2022, Amir-Abdollahian and Griffiths held talks in Geneva. The two sides discussed a variety of issues, including Yemen, Syria, and Afghanistan.

The two sides reviewed the recent developments regarding the same topics and reporters found the opportunity to ask how far the UN has come in its humanitarian efforts in the region in a presser after that meeting.

With numerous challenges that still exist in Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan and as the US sanctions continue to take their toll on the Iranian people, the question remains: how effective is the UN?
