Iran FM arrives in Omani capital Muscat for high-level talks

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has arrived in the Omani capital for talks with the Persian Gulf sultanate’s officials.

Heading a high-ranking political delegation, Amir-Abdollahian traveled to Muscat on Tuesday, at the invitation of Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, to discuss bilateral relations as well as major international and regional issues in his meetings with Omani officials.

Following a meeting with his Omani counterpart, Amir-Abdollahian said the two sides agreed to hold a meeting of their joint economic commissions in the near future. "Based on the official invitation of the President of Iran to the Sultan of Oman, the date of this meeting was discussed," he added.

He also noted that the two sides see eye to eye on regional issues, adding that “Oman always plays a constructive role in the talks to lift the sanctions [on Tehran] and we held necessary consultations in this regard."

Back in December, Amir-Abdollahian visited Oman for talks on various regional and international issues, including the crises in Yemen, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.

At the time, he described his visit as an opportunity to examine the countries' mutual affairs, and also a chance to discuss issues "that have to be [addressed] at a faster pace."

Amir-Abdollahian is also scheduled to visit Lebanon to meet with senior Lebanese officials.

According to Lebanese media, the Iranian foreign minister will arrive in Beirut on Wednesday.

During his two-day visit, he will hold talks with Lebanese officials, including Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib.
