CEO of Russia’s state energy company Gazprom Alexey Miller has arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran to hold high-level talks on joint projects between the two countries.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency said in a Tuesday report that Miller had kicked off negotiations with officials from Iran’s Oil Ministry soon after arriving in Tehran.

The report said that Miller and his accompanying delegation will seek to compile a roadmap for cooperation on projects in the Iranian oil and gas sector, adding that he may also hold a meeting with Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji or one of his senior deputies during his stay in Iran.

Miller and Gazprom executives had met Iranian ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali on Monday before departing for Iran.

Gazprom and Iran’s state oil company the NIOC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) last year to cooperate on more than $40 billion worth of oil and gas projects in Iran.

According to Iranian Oil Ministry officials, Gazprom will contribute to Iran’s plans to develop six oilfields and two gas field under the MoU while Iran will enable the Russian company to export its gas through the Iranian territory under a swap arrangement.
