West complicit in ‘coordinated’ Daesh-Israel attacks on Syria: Analyst

Recent rounds of back-to-back attacks by the Daesh terrorist group and the Israeli regime on quake-hit Syria were coordinated, and the Western governments were complicit in the deadly onslaught, according to an analyst.

Zafar Bangash, Toronto-based director of the Institute of Contemporary Islamic Thought, told Press TV on Sunday that the international community, essentially the US and its allies, tend to gloss over Israel’s “war crimes” and consent to its illegalities.

“There is not only coordination [between Daesh and Israel], but I would go even further and say that even Western governments are complicit in this,” Bangash said.

On Friday, at least 53, mostly civilians, were killed in a terrorist attack carried out by Daesh terrorists in Syria’s central Homs province.

Within less than two days, the Israeli apartheid regime carried out air strikes on Syria’s capital, Damascus, in the early hours of Sunday. The air strikes damaged residential buildings and left 5 dead and 15 wounded.

This is not surprising, Bangash said of the international community’s silence on the matter, adding, “Israel has been given carte blanche to do whatever it likes in the region.”

“What we refer to as the international community is essentially the United States and its allies, and they turn a blind eye to Israeli crimes. They also finance and arm Israel to carry out these illegal acts,” he regretted.

He said if the scenario was reversed, the so-called international community would have issued an extremely threatening message to Syria and warned it of serious consequences, and its NATO allies not only condemned Syria, but there would be retaliatory strikes probably.

Bangash also slammed the UN and other international agencies’ unprofessional conduct in aid deliveries to quake-ravaged areas in Syria after February 6 devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey’s southeast and Syria.

“Despite the fact that the United States announced it was lifting sanctions against Syria for a period of six months in order to provide humanitarian aid, no aid has reached those areas of Syria that are under the Syrian government control,” he said.

All the aid, he added, is going into the Turkish-Syrian border that is under Daesh’s control, so it is obvious that the international aid which obviously is coming from the UN and other international agencies is providing support to the terrorists rather than more vulnerable people inside Syria.

“This means the West has not given up on its nefarious agenda of trying to overthrow the Syrian government,” he said.

Following the deadly quake which left thousands dead in Syria and Turkey, the US has temporarily eased its sanctions on Syria in an effort to speed up aid deliveries to the country’s northwest.

In 2014, the US and its allies invaded Syria, ostensibly to battle the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

However, after Syria and its allies, including Iran and Russia, defeated the terrorist outfit in late 2017, the US-led coalition maintained its presence in the region under the pretext of preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of terrorists.

Damascus, however, maintains the deployment is meant to plunder the country’s natural resources – something that the former US president Donald Trump admitted on several occasions.

Israel, the US’ long-time ally, has also been a main supporter of terrorist groups that have battled the government of President Bashar al-Assad since foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria in early 2011.

The Zionist regime frequently violates Syrian sovereignty by targeting military positions inside the country, especially those of the resistance movement Hezbollah, which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.

Syria has repeatedly complained to the UN over Israeli assaults, urging the Security Council to take action against Tel Aviv’s crimes. The calls have, however, fallen on deaf ears.

“Israel has never been constrained by legality … We cannot expect much from the International Criminal Court or the International Court of Justice … Nothing short of resistance, particularly from the Resistance Front is going to bring an end to the Israeli crimes,” Bangash told Press TV.
