Nationwide protests in France

A record number of people have taken to the streets in France amid a wave of strikes over controversial government plans to raise the retirement age to 64. 

Transport, schools and energy sector were hit by the latest round of protests and strikes. There were clashes between police and demonstrators in the capital Paris as well as the city of Rennes. As unions plan to stage new strikes and protests against pension reform plans, is French President Emmanuel Macron risking civil unrest to get his plan through?
