A young Palestinian man has been killed by Israeli forces during a military raid on the city of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank, bringing the number of Palestinian fatalities from the Israeli violence this month to 35.

The Palestinian health ministry said on Monday that 26-year-old Nasim Nayef Salman Abu Fouda was shot in the head after Israeli troops stationed at the military checkpoint 160, south of the Ibrahimi Mosque, opened fire on his car.

He was taken to al-Ahli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The latest death comes as violence surges in the occupied West Bank, where the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces this month has risen to 35, including eight minors.

On Sunday, the Palestinian health ministry said 24-year-old Omar Tareq Saadi died of his serious injuries after being shot in the stomach by Israeli troops during the violent raid on the Jenin refugee camp on Thursday.

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said Saadi was a former prisoner who spent about 3 years in Israeli jails.

Earlier, Israeli forces shot and killed a young Palestinian man over an alleged shooting attempt in the northern part of the West Bank.

The Israeli military, in a statement released before Saturday midnight, alleged that a Palestinian man armed with a handgun was killed near the illegal Kedumim settlement.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the 18-year-old victim as Karam Ali Ahmad Salman.

Israeli forces launch raids on various cities of the occupied West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what it calls “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to violent confrontations with residents.

Over the past months, Israel has ramped up attacks on Palestinian towns and cities throughout the occupied territories. As a result of these attacks, dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives and many others have been arrested.

The United Nations marked 2022 as the deadliest year for Palestinians in the West Bank in 16 years.

Israeli forces killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and occupied East al-Quds last year, including more than 30 children. At least 9,000 others were injured as well.
