The Taliban officials on Tuesday ordered a nationwide ban on university education for Afghan women. Earlier, a letter, made public by the spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education, Ziaullah Hashmi, outlining that the measure would take effect immediately in private and public universities.

Today the Taliban forces barred women from entering Kabul University. Outraged, female students told Press TV about their anguish.

Afghan experts warn that the new order will have a devastating impact on the future of women as well as the entire afghan nation. They urge the Taliban authorities to stop rolling back afghan women’s rights.

In addition to oppositions from inside Afghanistan, the United Nations and several countries have condemned the order. They have signaled that the Taliban administration won’t get recognition until they equally observe the human rights of all Afghans.

After taking power, the Taliban promised a softer rule and upholding women’s rights. But today, many here say the Taliban have been failing to abide by their promises.
