According to foreign-based news channels, a 3-day strike was supposed to sweep across the country from Monday through Wednesday. But a quick walk around the streets of Tehran, especially its grand bazaar, shows the shops are all open and people are busy shopping for their own needs.

There are videos circulating on social media purporting to show some shops in Tehran's Grand Bazaar closed. People say, however, that these shopkeepers have closed their shops in fear of vandalism. In some cases, rioters have rendered shopkeepers unable to open their shops by putting glues on their locks. Also, there is news that unknown gunmen have opened fire on some trucks whose drivers were not willing to stop working during the three-day strike.

Iranian Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei has warned that those who threaten or force sellers close their shops and join the strike will be identified and prosecuted.

The country has been gripped by riots for ten weeks now, with the unrest claiming the lives of civilians and security forces. The Islamic Republic says foreign media outlets are overstating what's going on in Iran to fan the flames of unrest. Officials are now calling on rioters to calm down, warning them against playing into the hands of Iran’s adversaries.
